The New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator is looking for dedicated and talented individuals to conduct death investigations in various counties around the state. This is an unusual and exciting learning opportunity that provides a valuable service to your community.
Job Duties
Under indirect supervision, and on an on-call basis, responds to and participates in the on-scene investigation of unnatural and/or unattended deaths, and prepares reports for the Office of the Medical Investigator. The investigation includes photographing the scene, conducting an examination of the decedent, collecting samples for toxicology when needed, interviewing families and witness, and ensuring the security and confidentiality of the decedent.
This is an on-call position and is not benefits eligible. Investigators are paid a case fee and mileage for each case investigated. Investigators work with other OMI Investigators in their county to create a call schedule, and we will work around other employment. One must remain in the county though to respond to a scene on days you are scheduled.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED with no previous work experience required. Due to the unusual nature of the job, we look for dedicated people and provide the training necessary to be successful.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with medical terminology and basic human anatomy
Experience working in the medical field, in law enforcement, or in the funeral home industry
Requirements

Ability to lift, move, and manipulate heavy bodies
Strong writing skills
